Editor's Review:

EtalkUp is a good value live chat support service that offers excellent reliability and customer support. While it isn't the best looking solution we have ever seen, it looks professional enough to fit in well with any corporate website and comes with a fully customizable user interface. eTalkUp doesn't offer quite as many features as some of the products in our top ten, but still gives you everything you need to vastly improve your sales and customer service by taking advantage of live chat.

Setting up eTalkup is very easy and it only takes a couple of copy and pasted lines of code to enable it on your website. Handily you can use one account across as many websites as you wish which is great value if you run a few different ones. Once enabled, visitors to your site will see a pop up similar to the one on eTalkup's home page that lets them see which of your operators are available. From there they can request a live chat session or fill in a form to send the operator an email. If there is no one online, the email functionality still works which means you never miss a customer's call. The user interface looks good enough, but it isn't quite as modern looking as some we have come across.

The operator client eTalkup provides only runs on Windows and there doesn't seem to be a web-based equivalent so your options are rather limited. There is no scope for working from anywhere or accessing chat sessions from a mobile device. However, the client itself does work pretty well, but again could benefit from a bit of user interface polish. Breaking from the usual convention for operator clients it looks very similar to a typical instant messaging client with visitors to your website showing up as contacts in the contact list. From here you can see the location of users and any other information available and can set up alerts for when particular users come online.

Strangely enough eTalkup does provide a web-based control panel, but you can't access the live chat sessions from here. It's mainly used for setting up operators and managing the request queues. It is probably the best looking part of the system and is very simple to use. As well as the basic management features you can also run reports to analyze operator performance. This will show you how long they have spent on calls and how many they have dealt with. Unfortunately, unlike many live chat solutions, eTalkup doesn't allow your visitors to leave feedback so it can be difficult to know if a call was resolved successfully.

Etalkup is a decent enough live chat service and is offered at very good prices for the time being at least (the site specifies a special offer, but we think it's permanent). However, it's just not quite a top of the range solution and misses some features, such as pro-active chat invitations and post chat surveys, that many businesses find very useful. That said, a llimited free version is available so it doesn't cost anything to give it a shot!
